SDG9 is industry, innovation and infrastructure, which aims to build resilient and sustainable infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation. Sourceful aligns with SDG9 by enabling the transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure.

As a community-driven virtual power plant, Sourceful leverages innovative technologies such as blockchain, IoT, and machine learning to optimize energy production and consumption, while also enabling the integration of renewable energy sources into the energy system. Where we stand​

Despite progress, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on the manufacturing industry globally, with almost one in three jobs negatively impacted. The recovery has been uneven, with manufacturing in least developed countries stagnating. The pandemic has also highlighted the vulnerability of small industrial enterprises, which face greater supply chain dependencies and limited financial resources.

At Sourceful, we recognize the importance of technological innovation in achieving SDG 9. Our decentralized energy system is designed to promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation by empowering individuals and communities to take control of their energy resources. Additionally, our use of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency incentivizes investment in renewable energy sources, contributing to the growth of a sustainable infrastructure. It is also of great importance to us to prioritize developing countries, where the coverage gap for mobile broadband networks remains significant, and governmental support is often lacking. Target 9.1​

Target 9.1 aims to promote sustainable industrialization and significantly increase the industry's share of employment and gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030. As of 2021, the share of manufacturing value added in total GDP increased from 16.2% in 2015 to 16.9% in 2021, but the recovery has been uneven across countries, with stagnations in least developed countries [worldbank.org]. Additionally, small industrial enterprises are more vulnerable than larger firms to economic downturns, and governmental support is hardly available in low-income countries.

Target 9.2​

SDG9 Target 2 aims to promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and increase the sector’s contribution to employment and GDP growth. Currently, the manufacturing industry is recovering from the pandemic, but the rebound is uneven across countries, and small industrial enterprises are more vulnerable than larger firms. The pandemic has also negatively impacted almost one in three jobs in the manufacturing industry globally.

At Sourceful, we believe that technological innovation and the use of blockchain technology can help to promote sustainable and inclusive industrialization. By using our decentralized energy system and energy gateway, individuals and communities can take control of their energy resources and contribute to a cleaner, greener future. Target 9.3​

SDG9 Target 9.3 aims to increase the access of small-scale industries and other enterprises, particularly in developing countries, to financial services, including affordable credit and their integration into value chains and markets.

At Sourceful, we recognize the importance of supporting small-scale industries and enterprises, especially in developing countries, as they play a crucial role in creating jobs and driving economic growth. Our platform is designed to enable individuals and communities to take control of their energy resources and contribute to a cleaner, greener future, while also providing economic benefits.

By using the Sourceful Energy Gateway to measure and validate the energy generated by distributed energy resources (DERs), individuals can earn SRC tokens for their contributions to the decentralized energy grid. These tokens can then be used to participate in the energy marketplace or exchanged for other cryptocurrencies or fiat currency on various cryptocurrency exchanges. This provides individuals with a means of earning income and contributing to the development of a sustainable energy system.

In addition, the Sourceful platform enables the creation of microgrids, which can provide energy access to underserved communities and small-scale industries in remote areas. Target 9.4​

Target 9.5​

SDG9 Target 9.5 aims to enhance research and upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors in all countries, particularly developing countries, including, by 2030, encouraging innovation and increasing the number of research and development workers per one million people and public and private research and development spending.

Target 9.a​

Target 9.a aims to "facilitate sustainable and resilient infrastructure development in developing countries through enhanced financial, technological and technical support to African countries, least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States".

Target 9.b​

Target 9.b focuses on supporting domestic technology development and adoption, particularly in developing countries. The target aims to significantly increase the number of industrial research and development expenditures in developing countries and to encourage innovation and increase the number of companies offering technological services to these countries by 2030.

Target 9.c​

SDG9 Target 9.c aims to increase access to information and communication technologies (ICTs) with a specific focus on providing affordable and universal access to the Internet in least developed countries by 2020. Despite progress, the digital divide remains a challenge, particularly in developing countries. In 2021, 95% of the world population had access to a mobile broadband network, but coverage gaps remained in least developed countries and landlocked developing countries, where 17% of the population had no access to a mobile broadband network. Moreover, access to ICTs alone is not enough to ensure development [itu.int]. It is also necessary to build the skills and capacity to use these technologies effectively.

As a company committed to promoting sustainable energy, Sourceful recognizes the importance of access to ICTs for the deployment and management of renewable energy systems. In particular, the Energy Gateway, Sourceful's proprietary device for monitoring and controlling renewable energy systems, is dependent on access to ICTs. With its Helium-enabled network, the Energy Gateway provides an innovative solution for addressing the challenges of connectivity in remote or rural areas, where traditional communication networks may be unreliable or unavailable. By improving access to ICTs, particularly in least developed countries, Sourceful is working towards achieving SDG9 Target 9.c and contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development.
